Strategies for risk assessment of chemicals in food

1 August 2021

Develop a tiered approach to food chemical risk assessment, depending on the level of available information, including introduction to novel techniques and their applicability. The ability to use non-animal models for testing the toxicological safety of ingredients and foods is of interest to industry given changing consumer values regarding the use of animal testing to establish food safety.

This project will aim to summarize current approaches to food chemical safety evaluation, review novel developments in toxicology and exposure assessment and provide guidelines to underpin food chemical risk assessment (including New Zealand expertise).
