Norovirus article timely

As if prescient, Centre Director Dr Catherine McLeod had just submitted an article to the Stuff science editor about norovirus when news broke of a cluster of infections at early childcare centres in Auckland. The article was published on Monday, and a shortened version posted on their website.

The full version is here.

Jesse Mulligan, RNZ presenter, interviewed Auckland Regional Medical Officer of Health, Dr Jay Harrower, about the outbreak.  Dr McLeod echoes his advice to use soap and water for handwashing, and bleach for surface disinfection, rather than alcohol-based hand sanitisers and ammonia-based disinfectants, which are not as effective against norovirus.
