Seafood NZ: Centre industry advisory group develop 'bot' to detect algal blooms

This article in the SeafoodNZ magazine is about the development of a new device for detecting algal blooms as they occur, so that seafood companies can make decisions about when and where to harvest.  It centres on David Jones, who is heading the NZFSSRC industry advisory group.  As Sanford’s food safety manager, he knows all about the cost of algal blooms, which in the past have caused the closure of seafood beds for months.  Algal blooms could be a problem this year too, with a NIWA scientist warning that we could be in for an ‘epic marine heatwave’ this summer.
